AIMS OF THE PRACTICE

As Chartered landscape architects and a Registered Practice of the Landscape Institute (London), we aim to provide a first class landscape design consultancy service by translating our long and varied experience into imaginative but workable designs geared to each client’s particular needs and within the given financial constraints.

Each project receives the personal attention and input by the principal from original inception right through to completion and aftercare.

We have specialist experience in landscape management and practical landscape maintenance and these factors are prime considerations in the design of any new project. An ecological approach combined with sound design and landscape planning principles is taken in all cases.

We can provide the expertise of specialists in Ecology and Urban Design.

One of our unique specialisations lies in the field of biotechnical ‘Green engineering’ applications of plant materials to achieve engineering goals, such as water edge and coastal erosion protection measures, steep slope stabilisation and anti-erosion applications in general.

SUMMARY OF THE EXPERTISE OF THE PRACTICE

Werner de Bock MLI, the practice principal, has over 30 years landscape design experience. Having worked previously for public and private employers he started the practice in 1983.

The practice has a very varied design capability, covering all aspects within the field of landscape design and planning, as well as specialised experience in practical landscape management and maintenance and these factors are prime considerations in the design of any new project.

The practice is experienced ‘green engineering’ techniques related to wateredge protection and coastal erosion control as well as slope stabilisation and anti-erosion applications in general.

Whilst working for previous employers our main field of work was in urban landscaping schemes in London Dockland projects (Surrey Docks, Durands Wharf) and in the past we have collaborated with other practices on dockland work for the LDDC and Sir Alfred McAlpine (Western and Norway Docks). We are used to work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team and consultants with whom we have been associated on previous projects include engineers Ove Arup & Partners.

Having worked on projects for Oxford University Press and The Jockey Club, our main clients in the ‘90s have been various public authorities, including Peterborough Development Corporation (now Commission for the New Towns) and Peterborough City Council. For such clients we designed a variety of landscaping projects ranging from small housing developments and pedestrianisation schemes to large scale landscape structure plans for new neighbourhoods and most of these were implemented under our direct contract control and on-site management, up to handover and final account stages.

We also provide landscaping input and planning control for Planning Applications.

We carry out landscape design work for housing associations, commercial developers and private clients, mainly larger projects.

We have prepared a number of ecological surveys and provided environmental assessment reporting for major developments including 2 riverside projects, both involving the Environment Agency.
